Prof. Mamoru Yamamoto is a researcher in atmospheric/ionospheric dynamics.
After getting a PhD degree from Kyoto University in 1988, he was working at
Kyoto University as a research associate at Radio Atmospheric Science Center
(RASC) (1988-1996), an assistant professor at Radio Science Center for Space
and Atmosphere (RASC) (1996-2007), and a professor at Research Institute for
Sustainable Humanosphere (RISH) (2007-now). He has been studying vertical
coupling of the atmosphere/ionosphere through waves based on various
observations. His observation techniques are various radars including the MU
radar and Equatorial Atmosphere Radar (EAR), sounding rockets, satellite-to-
ground dual-band beacon, and GPS-TEC experiment. He joined RISH, Kyoto University since its
establishment in 2004, contributed promotion of the humanosphere science, and was elected as the 6 th
director of RISH in 2022. His first visit to Indonesia was in around 1990 as a member of radio
environment searches for “Equatorial Radar”. After that, he started collaborations with Indonesian
scientists with many visits to Jakarta, Bandung, and Bukittinggi.
